About

Kathleen Yap is a nature landscape and wildlife photographer based in Singapore.

Kathleen graduated with a degree in Environmental Science and a specialization in Conservation Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she graduated with highest honors in 2016. Her field research and work were her inspiration to begin photography. Paired with the knowledge and insight on the environment, her photography aims to paint a picture of the ‘modern wilderness’ and highlight stories of how our natural environment intertwines deeply with our own.
Her passion for the community and nature led her to pioneer the Alternative Breaks program in UCLA, a programme that promotes civic engagement and learning with various communities. She also has years of work experience in Singapore to build innovative natural landscapes in the middle of the city to promote positive human-nature interactions.
Kathleen was awarded the Grand Prize in Sony’s 2019 Journey to Greatness, and was a finalist in the 2015 National Geographic Photographic Competition and the 2017 & 2018 Singapore Garden Photographer of the Year.
